New Artists Studio Space in Sligo & Call Out For Artists To Join

A new and exciting studio space is under way at the Old Mill on Union Street in Sligo.
The space that is going to be used is 4000 sq ft with the intention to have approximately 20 – 24 artists sharing the space on a 12 month contract basis with a view to keeping the space active on an ongoing long term basis.  The space will provide a hub, privately run by the collective artists but also open to the public and to be used for studio workspace, gallery space, exhibitions, photographic studio, storage, coffee/ meeting / social space, workshops and for film viewings.

Matthew Tucker is one of the Artist involved in setting up the Art Space. Currently a student at Sligo I.T, he and a number of students from the Art Department are focused on seeing this project augment.

First they must undergo the establishment of a committee of 8 members to manage, administrate and be responsible for the studio space and once this is agreed they will be in a position to sign the lease of the Old Mill.
They are currently on the look out for 3 or 4 artists from outside of the IT who would be interested in becoming committee members. Artists must be committed to art practise, responsible, innovative and enthusiastic about the project.

There is also the look out for any Artists simply looking for studio space. A price has not yet been confirmed but the monthly rental fee for a work space/studio will be extremely affordable, final numbers (not exceeding 24) will dictate the price but in any case the figure will be below €100 monthly.

The objective of the space at the Old Mill is to create a lively, open and engaging environment for local artists to work and art lovers to come and get involved, giving artists the opportunity to show their work and communicate with an audience.

If you are interested please e-mail or call Matthew directly at the following contact details.

French artist looking for Sligo artists to participate in event in conjunction with the Model.

French artist Thierry Geoffroy will be arranging a series of events he calls Critical Runs in Sligo, from his home in Denmark in the run-up to The Model's reopening exhibition, Dorm. People are invited to run in three different events – organised so that political issues are discussed while jogging.

These three runs will happen on the 28th and 29th of April and will take place in the centre of Sligo town. Thierry is particularly looking for artists of any discipline, and people aged 50+ for two of the runs, but everyone is welcome for the third. The runs have taken place all over the world from the Brooklyn Bridge to Athens, Greece and are a great opportunity to meet new people, get issues off your chest and contribute to an art project while you’re on the run.

Drink & Draw II

We are delighted to announce another Drink & Draw, put together by Wayne O' Conner. Its been a while since the previous one back in Novemeber 2009. As before the club invites anyone interested in doing a sketch over a chat and a pint. A very informal evening, all is required is a sketchbook and a pencil/markers whatever takes your fancy.

Founded by Dave Johnson, Jeff Johnson and Dan Panosian, the Drink & Draw Social Club was founded out of a mutual love of socializing, drinking and drawing. Drawing on napkins, menus, walls and sometimes even a sketchbook or two, this informal group huddles around the tables and booths of pubs and taverns for the unusual camradarie that it promises to bring.
The club started in America and has spread out across the country, with Drink and Draw clubs cropping up in San Diego, LA, New York, Miami and more and recently spreading to England and to Cork City.
